There is no concrete assesement to when language began as we know it.
Modern human behavior began around 50,000 years ago, when they had started creating more sophisticated items. Language didn’t develop 250,000 years ago. Approximately at that time we didn’t behave any different from most animals, our behavior was primitive, thus there’s no apparent reason to believe language was born, plus language is like evolution, takes time to develop into what we know as language instead of imitation.

There are some half-truths in there, he’s a bit off with some things, but he’s funny.

Remember Christians, the will of God is no Catholic, Protestant,Orthodox, Penticostal, Adventist, JW, Etc. NO DIVISION, Only Christians, holy, helping and sharing instead of buying and selling.
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17:9-21)
This is not meant to be misinformation. This is meant to give the audience a basic understanding of language and the history of the English language. It is intended spark one’s interest, and then one can do their homework. Dr. Engel is legit, I know him. Basically, he is addressing history to most audience members: dumb people.
Warning!!!! This is really bad. It’s just misinformation based on misunderstanding. He’s entertaining enough, but don’t take anything he has to say about phonetics as gospel. It’s incomplete and misguided.
what? this is bullshit. the first language was not english so how can the earliest people on earth come up with the english language?

Hi, quick question – who is he?
Comment by brevicaudate — April 8, 2009 @ 1:00 pm
Some of what he says is not correct, he is not a linguist, he must be a literature professor.

is he a prefessor? looks like a preacher! Why is he talking as if he is talking to a load of deaf 10 year olds

Totally, he knows nothing about phonetics and references absolutely nothing he says. I were to turn in a paper based on this lecture it would fail.

Comment by Louieinoz — May 1, 2009 @ 5:59 pm
Therese truly only one “I” sound all others are combined with other sounds, unnecessary and artificial.
